Dr. Austin Zamarripa obtained his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit (BPRU) under the mentorship of Dr. Ryan Vandrey and Dr. Tory Spindle. Currently, Dr. Zamarripa serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Zamarripa’s research focuses on investigating various factors (e.g., route of administration, dosage, and sex) that influence the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of cannabis using controlled clinical laboratory methods. Furthermore, his research involves conducting human laboratory studies using drugged driving simulations to characterize the cognitive, psychomotor, and driving impairments associated with cannabis and other substances (e.g., alcohol). The overarching objective of Dr. Zamarripa’s work is to provide valuable insights for policy-making decisions related to cannabis.
