Dr. Dowd obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University at Buffalo (UB) and completed her clinical internship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. During her graduate training, Dr. Dowd’s research focused on investigating the underlying mechanisms (e.g., craving) that lead to the initiation / maintenance of nicotine use. Dr. Dowd conducted a variety of studies to examine electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) specifically, which included the development, empirical validation, and publication of the first questionnaire to assess e-cigarette craving (i.e., the Questionnaire of Vaping Craving). Currently, Dr. Dowd is completing her postdoctoral fellowship under the guidance of Dr. Ryan Vandrey and Dr. Tory Spindle studying factors (e.g., route of administration) that impact the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of cannabis use.
